On coming home…

I was hitting a little night time road running last night, watching my shadow creep up from behind and overtake me every 50 odd meters, and thought to myself…this is the first time I feel like me again since the flight.

When I first heard that it takes roughly one day to recover one hour that you lose travelling form west to east, I thought that was a stat designed for the elderly and that I’d bounce back a lot quicker…but it’s been a pretty accurate estimation this time round.

My tactic for dealing with jetlag, which I thought was genius at the time but turned out to only make things worse, was to smash a 2 day bender and become nocturnal Canada side. Then, when the timing inverted after the flight, I’d already be in the correct cycle….FAIL.

We flew back to SA via Schipol Amsterdam, with a 15 hour stop-over. I had this dream to meet up with Beardyman for a short while in Amsterdam – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PMZ3QQqwtY.

He is, currently, in my opinion, hands down, the world’s most dexterous and creatively excellent beat-boxer. The intention was to fly him to Amsterdam, do a little beat box battle (which I would no doubt lose hands down) and then get him to beat box a version of the “Wave Your Flag” World Cup 2010 track for the Saffa’s out there.

I had been in contact with his management and asked that if I could get 1 000 people to “attend” my Beardyman petition event, then would they consider allowing me fly Beardyman to Amsterdam. I would cover the costs of flights, accommodation and the studio time that he would be missing out on for the day. The verdict was positive and so it was on. With the help of many friends we reached well over 1 000 folk in under 4 days. I sent the screenshot to the Beards management. I wasn’t sure if they had assumed that we would not follow through, but they basically backed out saying he had to be in studio.

I was pretty disappointed along with many others…this guy is my guru and mentor, but, I do understand, and I think the option is still there for the future so, no hard feelings.

Next came the issue of what to do in Amsterdam now that the Beardyman dream was dead. We had grand plans, Faust and I, from smashing clubs and ‘coffee shops’ to the red light dis…I mean the Anne Frank museum. Sadly, however, all that went down is a bit of Burger King and then we passed out to an episode of Mad Men.

In our defense, the end of the trip had been really intense. We were couch surfing and not sleeping very well. I had also been implementing Ray jetlag tactics so all in all, we were pretty spent.

In attempt to finish strong, we were also recording a track in studio with Bud, the tour manager of a band called “Default”. We also filmed a music video to go along. I am very excited about that! It is our best content piece so far and wraps up our trip very well. We are about to release soon, so get excited, and keep checking in.

Till then, LoneRaynger Out
